Friends of RGS
RGS is a community as well as an institution, and that community extends far beyond the School’s walls. Whether you are a former student, the family of a boarder or day boy, or a Friend of RGS, we hope that these pages help you to understand how you have continued to shape the School.
We hope you enjoy reading the impact we have made together. As you will see, your relationship with RGS helps to support it, both now and in the future.
The pandemic accelerated an avalanche of changes that were on the horizon for education. Having to send students home was dramatic as was the speed with which we needed to react to these enforced changes.
In many ways these experiences have informed what is happening at RGS now, with departments and pupils finding new ways to deliver remote and hybrid learning and developing new approaches to pedagogy. It has also reinforced our vision for RGS, presenting an opportunity to deliver a transformational change to the experience of our pupils, not only in the teaching and learning opportunities RGS offers but also in the provision of dedicated spaces in which we can support and inspire our students as they transition to further education and life beyond RGS.
Our current priority for capital investment is to bring our Sixth Form together in one building, providing well-designed, flexible, spaces for learning and teaching that promote the academic activity of pupils as well as supporting knowledge exchange and collaboration. This will be achieved through a combination of communal spaces, as well as much needed quiet spaces for private study.
If the experience of the past two years have taught us anything, it is that the future is unpredictable with regard to external impacts on our school. In such extraordinary times, what do we want to maintain, or even invest in now? Our priority must be to invest in capital projects which benefit both current and future generations at RGS whilst continuing to offer the breadth of education for which we are renowned. This is only possible with your continued generosity and support.
